Five Must Try Korean Foods

  Five Must Try Korean Foods

When your traveling eating delicious food is one of the greatest experience one can have. Therefore, today I want to tell you some of the foods you should try when your visiting Korea:)

1. Samgyopsal 삼겹살 (Grilled Pork Belly)

Samgyopsal is very popular food to Koreans. It is actually grilled pork belly. It is a great match with some soju(Korean alcohol).
A lot of college students or workers, after a day of hard study or work, they go to samgyeopsal restaurants and eat meat and drink together.
It isn't a health food, but the taste, I can assure you that is just so damn good!!! Pork belly with a shot of soju sound great, doesn't it?

2. Naengmyon 냉면(Cold Noodles)

This is Naengmyon which is translated as cold noodle. It is a popular food especially in the summer because like the name indicates, it is served cold. Also, as you can see in the photo, there are two different kinds of naengmyon:)
One is called Bibim naengmyon and the other is called Mool naengmyon. Bibim cold noodle is served with hot pepper paste. Therefore, it is quite spicy. However, Nool cold noodle has more broth and is kind of sweet. If you ant it to be tangy, you can just add some wasabi. So there's a naengmyon for everyone~!!
Because it is refreshing, many people eat this after eating meat like samgyopsal lol

3.Samgyetang 삼계탕(Chicken Soup with Ginseng)

This is another summer time favorite:) When it's hot in summer one can get easily exhausted, and Korean ancestors ate this dish to get their energy back.
In this dish, it uses a whole chicken. Inside the chicken there is rice in it. Also there are other healthy ingredients in there.
Warning to people who are on a diet!!! This dish is high in calorie. But hey, it;s not often you get to eat samgyopsal so forget about diet when you are eating this :)
This is not spicy, but has a really good meaty broth and the chicken you can tear it up and eat it with some salt and pepper.

4. Boonsik분식

This is not actually a name of a food. But a name of group of foods. Boonsik is foods that are sold in cheap prices in streets or small boonsik places. The food include ddeokbokki, kimbab, soondae, fried food, mandoo, fish cake etc.
The  combination that I highly recommend is ddeokbokki, soondae, and fried food. This is one of the classic combinations and is still very popular. Sometimes people eat ddeokbokki with kimbab as well.
If you want ramen(Korean instant ramen I mean) noodles in your ddeokbokki, you can order rabokki. And if your a cheese lover, you can always order cheese ddeokbokki or cheese rabokki:)
I need to warn you that Soondae is made with pig's organs, so if you don;t like that then too bad :(  But if you want to try out new things and aren't afraid of eating new food, then you should definitely try it out.

5. Spicy Stir-fried Chicken 닭갈비

This is a spicy food. It's fried in a large skillet, right in front of you. It's made with chicken, chopped cabbage, sesame leaves, sesame seeds, rice cakes, onions, red pepper marinade and so on.
This is also great with shots of soju or some beer.
After eating it there will be some sauce left. And we Koreans don't like to waste:) So if you ask for fried rice, the worker at the restaurant will fry the rice with some other ingredients in that left sauce. This is another delicacy. Sometimes I eat this dish with my friend just because I want to eat that fried rice.
